Winter is Coming ❌ Winter is Here! ✔️
The temperatures have been dropping as the days go by, and we’ve started snuggling inside our blankets more and more. Even if some of us really enjoy the cold (Elsa-esque for real), our skin may face several issues while adjusting 😞
Winter Skin Problems and Solutions
Winter Skin Problems
Winter and skin care need to go hand-in-hand for several reasons.- Eczema: Dry and itchy skin tends to crack which causes irregular crevices. Older adults have a higher chance of facing eczema.
- Psoriasis: People get thick lesions on their skin and scalp. These are reddish in colour and can be caused by winter dryness.
- Cold Urticaria: These are allergic reactions to antigens. The skin turns red and itchy. This can be caused by several factors, including the winter season.
- Dermatitis: Any sort of inflammation of the skin. The skin forms dry and itchy patches. They could be a result of dryness, infection, an allergen, or exposure to harsh chemicals.
- Chapped Lips: Who doesn’t experience chapped lips? 😞 The skin on our lips is sensitive in general, and their sensitivities get aggravated due to the cold weather. The dryness can cause splitting of the skin.
These are a few of the many winter skin problems.
Solutions
There are various aspects you can manage in order to maintain healthy skin.
- Repeated Moisturiser: Moisturise your skin not once, not twice, but regularly. It needs to be kept clean and hydrated at all times.
- Pick the Best-Suited Moisturiser for your Skin: There are a variety of lotions available in the market. Check the ingredient list for shea butter, paraffin, glycerine, etc.
- Test Out Products: Every skin care product may not be for you. Each skin needs its own kind of protection. At times, an ingredient may do more harm than good by irritating your skin. Test a couple of winter skin care products to see which one makes your skin the healthiest.
- Stay Warm!: This is for Elsa-esque people as well ❄️ Stay as warm as you can to avoid exposing your skin to harsh cold weather for prolonged hours. Bundle up on those warm cosy socks and hoodies!
- Hygiene is Important: Amidst staying warm and covered, it is essential that you pay close attention to your personal hygiene. Use winter skin care products that clean the body without dehydrating it.
- Dermatologist knows Best: In case you notice any symptoms of the problems stated above, make sure you consult a doctor before taking any steps. They will direct you to a better recovery path.
