Why are Warm Cookies “Guilty” Pleasures?

We all have friends who could eat desserts for every meal. Breakfast ice creams, waffles for lunch, and a cake for dinner. As yum as it sounds, none of us can commit to such a lifestyle (it might also be slightly unhealthy 😛). Maybe you are one of them yourself 👀 Maybe you are of those who would love to eat desserts occasionally but hesitate to do so. We can’t unpack all the reasons why you hesitate, can we? Some of us were never allowed sweet things, some of us have been body-shamed, and some of us forced ourselves away from sweet treats. 



All our feelings are valid, yet we are worth healing. Especially in the matter of food that we consume, it is really important to have a positive relationship with it. If you realize that you have a poor diet, also know that you are worth making efforts to improve your dietary habits. The first step to that is accepting that no food is “bad food”. For now, let’s focus on the guilt we feel when we eat a sugary meal. 

What is your guilty pleasure? 

Guilty pleasures are things that we enjoy but feel they aren’t generally held in a high regard. Common guilty pleasures include an infamous movie 🎬 or a band no one likes in your vicinity 🎙️ Like eating cookies when you are on a diet or worse when you aren’t even dieting. This leads to the question: “Are guilty pleasures bad?” When we say anything in excess is not great for you, we imply that most things, in moderation, are fine for you. 

Specifically, if you aim to work your body till it reaches a healthy weight, it becomes crucial for you to maintain a positive relationship with your body and what you put in it. If you constantly engage in an activity but do it guiltily, you make a habit of feeling guilty for treating yourself (which isn’t healthy for your growth). 

How to treat yourself better? 

This starts with realizing and making peace with the fact that you do deserve better. You deserve to love yourself. You deserve a healthy body, but you don’t deserve the sacrifice of your mental health to reach there. Searching for “treat yourself better quotes” is not the only thing that’s going to help you. You have to take active steps to treat yourself better 💪🏼

Everyone leads a different life, faces unique challenges, and deals with them in their own style. You have to figure out how to heal yourself from a mentality that doesn’t allow you to be happy with yourself. It is going to take a while, which is why you start now. So if a cookie helps you wake up the next day with a smile, why would you not allow that?
